Avoid being tagged inappropriately on social media facebook
Unfortunately, this social media no-no involves something that somebody else does to you, rather than something you do to yourself.
It’s a sad reality nowadays that it’s very easy for a friend or stranger to tag you in a social media post on Twitter or Facebook that really might not reflect your actual thinking or beliefs. Indeed, it could be the complete opposite of your thinking or beliefs. Whether it’s to do with politics, gun control, or whatever other issue, such a thing could cause serious career or social problems for you in two different ways.
The first way it could cause problems for you is that once you are tagged in someone else’s post, it goes everywhere. Not only do all of your own friends or followers see that you were tagged in the post, but so also does everyone who is a friend or follower of the very person who tagged you. Depending on what security features are turned on or off on your settings, this can grow exponentially… and cause serious damage to your reputation.
The second way this can harm you is that people tend to believe that because you are tagged in the post, that means that you identify with the post itself. Sadly, it is typical of human nature to draw immediate conclusions, generally off of very little information, and definitely without looking for any supporting information. If you have a friend or a colleague who feels the need to tag you in every stupid post they make, and you feel that some of their posts will seem inappropriate to the average person, you need to tell them to stop in no uncertain terms as it could be really hurting your reputation. Needless to say, it could also be hurting your future career prospects.
